We are very proud to announce the scripting detection functionality in our Platform.

NEW FEAUTRE: Scripting detection on Anybrain.

At Anybrain, we have made it our mission to help studios and esports organizations build a more secure and fair environment for all gamers. What is now the most popular form of entertainment in the world — and the most lucrative — is far from being rid of fraudulent, toxic behaviors that ruin our hard-earned moments of peace. It may be acceptable to lose against a more skilled player, but not to some hacker armed with the latest undetectable fraud. Among those frauds: Scripting.

Scripting is one of the increasingly common bad behaviors in games and is growing day by day.

One of the oldest techniques used by cheaters, but also one that has been increasingly improved ever since. It allows the cheating player to automate certain tasks, like implementing bots to perform the player’s actions, or to perform them with unnatural velocity, artificially increasing the player’s performance.

These techniques are generally implemented using specific software or by exploiting features of the game. Third-party programs forcefully attach themselves to the game’s client and use the client’s memory and functionality to accomplish otherwise difficult or impossible tasks (e.g. recoil, rapid-fire, assigning the fire action to the scroll of the mouse to fire at much faster rates)

There are also “less” sophisticated techniques, but with the same effectiveness. Good examples are the use of macros that can fake the user input, both in the operating system and in the hardware itself -this allows the cheat to repeat and imitate the player’s action, macros that make actions faster and more efficient, or even some that allow a combination of actions that are impossible to perform for a human being, offering a clear advantage. It is important to note that those scenarios — these techniques — can be implemented without any security breach to the game, making them very hard to detect… Until now of course :)

There are countless repositories of small scripts created for many different types of games (unlike most cheats that turn out to be very specific to games like FPS) that can be found and easily used. Here’s an example of how to use a macro to activate “two actions” with just one human input

An example of how it is possible to use a mouse action to activate a keyboard input and evoke 2 actions simultaneously

On the Anybrain platform, using a behavioral analysis approach based on player interactions, we are able to capture those behaviors in real time, and on different platforms. Providing an extra layer of security for any game.

One final note: we are anticipating more and more attacks based on scripting techniques that, combined with the use of artificial intelligence, will be very powerful. But of course, we will be here to fight them 💪

If you are encountering scripting issues, or you want to start a test, please let us know.
